Aside from being a commercial model and actress, Maricar Reyes is also a practicing doctor, but her life as a general practitioner is something that Maricar would rather keep private. “I’d rather not talk about it much. I consider being a doctor as my day job, and I would like to keep that side of my life separate from my showbiz life. I want to keep a certain level of professionalism in both of my careers in medicine and showbiz. For some patients, having a doctor who is also an artista is a downside.Iniisip nila kung nagka-time ka ba talaga na mag-aral na maging doktor kasi artista ka. I want to keep them separate. If I’m a doctor, I’m only a doctor. If I’m an artista, I’m just an artista,” she told ABS-CBN.com during an exclusive interview at the ABS-CBN Trade Launch last April 30. Maricar is part of the cast of the new afternoon series Precious Hearts Romances presents Bud Brothers.
There have been rumors that Maricar used to date Dr. Hayden Kho, the ex-boyfriend of Dr. Vicki Belo, back when they were both in medical school. When asked about it, Maricar admitted that she did have a relationship with Dr. Hayden. “Yes, we dated for a year when we met in med school. I would say it was serious, like all of my relationships. I was committed to him, we were committed to each other. Pero wala rin e. Differences in our personalities siguro ang dahilan kung bakit kami naghiwalay. We didn’t seem to get along anymore, things were not working out. Parang one year after we realized we’re not compatible. We grew apart na lang. There’s nothing much I can say na rin because I can’t remember the details na. It’s been a long time, med school pa ‘yun.”
Maricar added that she lost touch with Dr. Hayden after their split and they have not seen each other ever since then. “Wala nang communication after the breakup. We grew apart. Naging iba na ‘yung lives namin. I haven’t seen him in a long time. I have no hard feelings naman. We were not compatible talaga, ganun lang ‘yun. We didn’t really know each other that well during the relationship. We didn’t have common friends that’s why nung nag-break kami, break talaga.”
Maricar confessed to ABS-CBN.com that she was very surprised when she heard the news that Dr. Hayden attempted to commit suicide after his much-publicized breakup with Dr. Vicki. “I was very surprised. I never knew he would do something like that, from what I knew of him. It made me think na maybe I didn’t really know him at the time we were together. I was also sad. But good thing naagapan ‘yung nangyari.”
However alarming the incident was, Maricar said that she never tried to contact or see her ex-boyfriend to extend help. “Hindi na ako nag-reach out. It’s been a long time so I don’t think I still have the place in his life. A situation like that calls only for the people close to the person. Baka rin may mga things sa life niya na hindi ko na alam. Mahirap namang makialam nang basta-basta.”
